A place for true believers in YaHWeH

Importance of The Names

In the ancient world, knowledge of a person's name was believed to give one power over that person and to show a personal relationship.  For the Hebrew people the knowledge of the Name of a person, or the supreme deity, meant that they were able to have a personal relationship with Him.

The using of the Names YaHWeH and YaHushuah are definitely important.  Just the mere use of the Name YaHWeH more than 6,800 times in the Tanakh shows how important it is to use it.  The Creator went to great lengths to show to us how important it was that we use His Name by what He said about it.  It is important that we use it to refer to Him and that we do not misuse it, or use it in a vain manner.

Exodus 20:7, "You do not bring the Name of יהוה your Elohim to naught, for יהוה does not leave the one unpunished who brings His Name to naught.

Leviticus 24:16, ‘And he who blasphemes the Name of יהוה shall certainly be put to death, and all the congregation certainly stone him, the stranger as well as the native. When he blasphemes the Name, he is put to death.

Jer 23:26-27 "Till when shall it be in the heart of the prophets? – the prophets of falsehood and prophets of the deceit of their own heart, who try to make My people forget My Name by their dreams which everyone relates to his neighbour, as their fathers forgot My Name for Baʽal (L-rd)."

Why should I use the Names

Why is it that you should use the Names of YaHWeH (Yahweh) and YaHushuah (Yahushuah, Yahushua, Yahshua)?  These names have meanings and power.

The terms that are normally associated with the Creator of the Universe and The Messiah (G-d, L-rd, J-sus, Chr-st, etc.) are sometimes associated with pagan uses.

The Term “G-d” for instance,…. If a person is speaking to another person about “G-d,” who are they speaking about?  Are they speaking of the Judeo-Christian deity, or are they speaking of Shiva (G-d in India), or Ba’al (Ancient deity in Mesopotamia), or even HaSHatan [Satan] (Satanists claim him to be their G-d)?  How would you know?

With the term “Ch-st,”  it means “anointed.”  As it is a Greek word, let us take a look at what it meant to the Greek people.  In their History, there were many which were “annointed.”  Their deities (Zu-s, H-des, etc.), Heraclese [Herculese], M-thras, as well as many others.  This term, “Chr-stos,” was used to say that the person or figure was special in some way.

Throughout history, the terms have been used for many purposes and the meanings have changed with each individual use.  These terms are not even names in the sense of the word.  If you were in another country and you were asked what your name was and you told them, but they refused to use it and instead just referred to you as “that guy,” how would you feel?  Every place that you went, all you heard was “hi that guy!,” or “hey that guy,” and then someone else comes to the same place as you and they start calling him “that guy,” what then?  Are you the first “that guy,” or are you the new “that guy?”

Within Scripture (the Scriptures of the Hebrew people), we were given the Names of the Creator of the Universe and of The Messiah.  The Names were ones that we were told to use and that they should be used for specific purposes.  By looking on the main page of this site, you can see that the Name of YaHWeH was [again] given to Moshe [Moses] and that it was the Name that was to be used for all generations.  The Name YaHushuah was given for the purpose of our prayers coming to YaHWeH, even if we are not worthy of approaching the presence of YaHWeH.  The Messiah told us that He came in the Name of His Father, this is done within the Names that we were given.  The YaH in YaHWeH is a shortened form which contains the Power (masculinity) of the Name and the Name YaHushuah has that Power within the beginning of it.  The Name YaHushuah has the meaning of, “YaHWeH you are Salvation.”

But, the question is, “Why should I use the Names and not the names and titles that I heard everyone else use and grew up hearing?”  If that question has not already been answered, here is something else.  Names were used in ancient society and to some extent, still are used to show acknowledgement of a personal relationship.  Knowing and using these Names, shows the people around you and the world, that you have a personal relationship with them.  This is what the Creator of the Universe wants.  He wants for you to come into an intimate knowledge of who He is and wants to share in the joys that bring Him pleasure.  If you do not even know His Name, or if you refuse to use His Name, then how is any of that possible?  You are to become friends which love each other and share in everything that comes your way.
